Overview of Idea

Our club is tired of seeing gang graffiti, plastic bags, litter and vandalism along the banks of the Columbia River. The Columbia is an integral part of our community, providing jobs, irrigation and recreation opportunities. We want to remind our community how important the Columbia is to everyone.

idea specifics: what will the $500 fund?

A financial donation will help us to make the Spring Columbia Cleanup an annual event for our club, students at the elementary school, and other community members. The money will allow the Riverside Outdoor Club to purchase trash bags, gloves, sanitizer, transportation and community communications and advertising. River cleanups are not expensive to organize and run, so $500 will ensure that this event will be repeated for years to come.

My environmental group does clean ups a lot, one thing that if you plan to make this a yearly thing would be good to maybe use the money to invest in burlap sacks that can bee repeatedly used to collect rash without producing more waste, or using one use plastic bags that will end up in landfills. Instead of gloves you could buy grapplers too, then you don't need gloves and those can be used for a really long time as well

Thanks for the great idea about the burlap bags. We have several invasive plant species here in Morrow County that the students can collect with the burlap bags. In addition, there is a bounty on one of the plants, tribulus terrestris, which would generate more money for the cleanup. Unfortunately, we still need to use gloves for the safety of the students, but we are looking at buying more durable gloves.
